In Town Rentals

on Tue, 02/05/2013 - 16:50

There are 2 vacation rentals in the town of Dominical.

They are each unique in what they have to offer.

Jazzy's River House is 3 bedrooms and on the banks of the Baru River, which is the big river that defines the northwest side of Dominical. While not being classified as "luxury" Jazzy's is nicely appointed.  The owners there are known far and wide for their stylistic flare. Kim used to teach basket making classes where she and her students would make some of the most outstanding baskets from local materials that this writer has ever seen.

Long Term Rentals in Dominical

on Sat, 11/03/2012 - 00:43

Yes, they do exist. I am making the prediction that long term rentals for Uvita, Dominical and Ojochal, (known much more simply as Costa Ballena), are going to become, not just as they are now which is, difficult to find, but that the market for them will grow into a ripe branch of the rental market.

The allure of the Vacation Rental, with its lavish weekly rates has been predominant and frankly, a bit intoxicating for home owners in Costa Ballena. However, I contend that, when all aspects of the rental business are considered, the long term rental is going to grow in its appeal.

Do You Need to Get Residency to Live in Costa Rica?

on Sat, 09/15/2012 - 13:47

You might call it a justification, or perhaps a deflection. And frankly, I agree. But, after living in Costa Rica for 10+ years I still did not have my residency. “How can that be?” you say. Well, you’re not alone. I got used to explaining it (ahem, read: justifying), by saying that it was what everyone did at the time. It seemed to be advantageous at that time to not get one’s residency.

I had a family, 2 kids, my wife and I, so the costs of getting residency, although considerably lower at that time, were a bit off-putting.

About Costa Ballena

on Mon, 06/25/2012 - 21:50

Costa Ballena is the name that was selected some years ago to embody what are essentially 3 towns along Costa Rica's southern pacific zone. There is another Costa Ballena in the world.  It is located in Spain and they've got lots of marketing on the Internet (and elsewhere I'd imagine) so that people are generally looking for that location in Spain when they do a search for Costa Ballena.

The decision was made based on the fact that the name is extremely appropriate for this area of Planet Earth. Unlike the Spain Costa Ballena, there are actually whales off this coast most of the year.

on Wed, 03/07/2012 - 15:31

A controversial new theory explains why visitors to Costa Rica can frequently be heard muttering, "I think I'm going to move here". The funny thing is, this phenomenon happens right around day #4 of their visit. Read more to get the whole story.
