BIRD WATCHING FEVER, ECOTOURISM AT ITS BEST
The Dance of the Red-capped
Manakin
By Jack Ewing
For the uninitiated, a bird watcher's enthusiasm for hearing, sighting
and studying our feathered friends, is hard to fathom. Why would anyone
rise with the sun, walk for hours while toting binoculars, spotting scope,
tripod, field guide, check list and notebook just to observe something
so mundane as a bird? We all see birds every day, so what ’s the big
deal? Continue --->

Ecotourism Defined:
"
Ecotourism is a nature based form of specialty travel defined by
The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) as 'responsible travel to natural
areas which conserves the environment and sustains the well-being of local people.'
There is a lot of talk about "Tourism" in Costa Rica. The reason
being, of course, is that there are many tourists that choose Costa Rica as
a preferred destination. Perhaps one of the biggest reasons being that of "ecology".
Hence, "ecotourism".
Costa Rica offers a refreshing step back into a time of big trees and rampant
life all around.
Dominical is at its very heart the personification of "Ecology".
There are enormous jungles, numerous rivers, and expansive beaches that are
home to a staggering variety of birds insects, and rain forest animals. A visitor
to the Dominical area is likely to see several varieties of monkeys, bird varieties
beyond counting, numerous mammals, and if one is particularly quiet, some amazing
reptiles.
News:
Global warming has gone from controversial theory, to scientific fact
in recent times. Obviously the repercussions affect each individual on
the planet, superceding any nationalistic boundaries or ideologies.

rate as the United States, it would require 3 Earth's to sustain
the consumption." Quote from a recent National Geographic |
Living and visiting Costa Rica, one finds themselves sensitized to our dependancy
on the balances that exist in nature, making this climate "imbalance" disconcerting.
