What Dominical.biz is About

The program got started in July of 2003. To read our statement of purpose, read on.

Hello all,
I thought I'd start the community journal off with a little overview of the project that "Dominical.Biz" has become. Due to tremendous enthusiasm and support on the part of the town residents and merchants, it has sort of taken on a life of its own. We are getting some good positions in a very short period of time on the search engines. So the original objective of attracting more internet traffic to the town of Dominical and all that it has to offer is being realized.

It would be interesting to poll the number of people that want to visit Costa Rica for one reason or another, and of of that number, find out how many used the internet first to plan where they were going to go, and what they were going to do. My guess is that the overwhelming majority of visitors to Costa Rica look for information first on the internet. This line of thought was at the very conception of Dominical.Biz...

To build a web site is one thing, and it can be an expensive thing. I know... everybody "knows somebody who can do you a web site for cheap". I'm not talking about that arrangement. If you have any sort of enterprise that you would like to put on the web, and you think that to be a viable option, then have at it. For the rest, you will likely hire a professional web site designer. Now, lets say you've got your web site, and it's a beaut! Your designers were probably quite proficient with a cutting edge graphics program, you've got some animations on the site, maybe a little Flash action. Your logo is eye catching enough to start to "Brand" your product of service. You call your family and friends and you tell them about the site, they visit the site and they tell you its a marvel... Then begins the long, slow, process that I call, "site rot".

After the initial enthusiasm and all the attaboys for having a nice web site, not much else happens. At last count there are a gazillion web sites on the internet, with thousands more being added each day. Yours is just one of them.

Now take the Dominical concern. A little dot on the globe, just a speck on the Pacific side of Costa Rica. In that little speck, you've got a business, or service, or interest that you would like to put on the web. Maybe you've already done it, and maybe the process of site rot has begun. So you look into what it takes to get your site findable and unless you are one of the truly rare phenomena known as a "funded company", you find that the expense of promoting a web site to be prohibitive. And so you do what most do in this situation, you do nothing. Your business continues on in "passive" mode.

Dominical is a truly amazing place, one that most visitors to Costa Rica would love to see. This web site is designed to be a gateway of sorts, a "portal" in the vernacular of the Internet, for Dominical to the web. Getting the one site well positioned and then having the various Dominical businesses featured prominently on the site should bring the desired increase in internet exposure to the community. This will then put the ball squarely in the court of the community, its businesses and residents, to provide professional, friendly, and I believe, family oriented service to those that visit as a result of these promotional efforts. These visitors will then provide the best form of marketing available on the planet, that of word of mouth as they go back home and tell family and friends about this amazing little community that sits in a tropical rain forest on the Pacific side of Costa Rica, Dominical.
