Webguy: Why fish Dominical?
Fisherman
It is one of the most unspoiled and beautiful parts of the country where
the mountains go right to sea. Webguy: Is the fishing any better here in Dominical than in other parts
of Costa Rica? Fisherman: Its essentially the same as elsewhere on Costa Rica's Pacific
coast. Sailfish is really good here. There are some Wahoo, Dorado, Tuna,
Marlin,
and
others.
This
is for off-shore fishing. We fish 30 miles off shore which puts us in
the same waters as all the sport fishing tours from Quepos.
It is over the Furuno Banks. Out there you get depths where it comes
up to about 100' and drops off to
over 6000' in some areas. Webguy: Is there a difference between the Pacific and
Carribean? Fisherman: The Pacific is much better. The Carribean doesn't have much
in the way of off-shore fishing. Most over there has to do with river
mouth,
Snook
and Tarpin. Webguy: How about the seasons, when is the best time to fish Dominical? Fisherman: Mid-December - April are the best. There are fish year round
though. Please take a minute and visit the guides listed
on our site. Most offer custom and all-inclusive packages to the waters
off of Dominical south to Corcovado.

The Costa Rica Classic International Billfish Tournament, was scheduled
March 19-21, 2004 in Quepos, almost filled its available slots.
The tournament was put on by the Boomer Esiason Foundation to heighten
awareness, education and funding efforts of cystic fibrosis research.
The tournament, then in its second year, had more than doubled in size.
"We have teams for 25 boats now and are about sold out," said Rob
Hodel, president of Tico Travel
, in Ft. Lauderdale who is coordinating the
tournament for the foundation. "The response has been amazing with anglers
coming from across the U.S. and Central America. We have a number of people
already signing on for the 2005 event."
The two-day,
17 hours-on-the-water event awards the team that tallies the most points
during the tournament. Along with awards for the top teams, anglers will
get a chance to enter the calcutta where a minimum of $10,000 in cash
will be give away. The contestants achieved points for catching, photographing
and releasing sailfish and marlin. The anglers will also collect points
for catches of roosterfish, dorado, tuna and dog tooth snapper.
The Costa Rica Classic has also been named by the International Game
Fish Association as a qualifying event for the sixth annual Rolex/IGFA
Offshore Championship, an international fishing competition, which took
place in May 2005.
The international fishing competition draws top teams from all corners
of the earth. The May 2004 championship was to attract some 60 teams
from 30 countries to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
As a qualifying event, the winning team of up to four anglers from the
CR Classic was to be invited to compete in the 2005 world championship
and a one-year membership in the association.
